Lito Dante of the Philippines has earned himself a shot at the vacant WBF World Minimum Weight Crown after defeating fellow countryman Clyde Azarcon in the Philippines over the weekend.
Scheduled for 10 championship rounds, the vacant WBF International Minimum Weight Title was on the line for two of the Philippines best in the Minimum Weight division. However, it took Lito Dante only 4 to stop former WBF Intercontinental Champ Azarcon in what was a highly anticipated fight on a stacked card at the Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.
The fight was busy from the opening bell with both challengers starting fast, trading and landing in what appeared to be a very even contest in the first and second rounds. Round 3 saw Dante shift into another gear landing a huge overhand right that sent Azarcon to the canvas who to his credit and experience was up quickly and ready to continue and looked fresh enough until a body attack from Dante sent him to the canvas not once, but twice more with Azarcon rising to his feet again and again but was clearly hurt and was literally saved by the bell as he rose for the last time.
Dante had his opponent on the backfoot early in the 4thand with another crushing overhand temple shot that floored Azarcon, the referee had seen enough and waived it away crowning Lito Dante the new WBF International Minimum Weight Champion who now has the WBF World Title in his cross hairs.
Official Result – Lito Dante (PH) def Clyde Azarcon (PH) - TKO4 of 10
