From the first round it was clear to see that this was going to be a war. After the first two rounds we had the fight score even.Mercado suffered a severe cut over his right eye due to a headbutt in the 2nd round which turned the fight into a bloodbath.
The fight continued back and forth with both fighters landing heavy shots to the body and head. With the fight not being stopped at the 4th round due to severe cuts to both fighters, it was clear the decision would most likely go to the scorecards.
During the 5th and 6th round both fighters were hurt and cut and looked like they were not going to be able to continue but continue they did. By the 8th round the fight was completely up for grabs. Most people had no idea what the outcome would be.
Finally when the decision was announced "The New Super Lightweight WBF Silver International Champion: Anthony Mercado"! You heard screaming and cheers for both fighters as they embraced one another. Anthony Mercado collapsed in the center of the Ring with his team surrounded him in jubilation. The Title Belt presentation was followed by the announcer asking a series of questions, many members of both teams continue to embrace one another honouring the new WBF Champion.
The entire event was streamed live on Fight Night Live over the Facebook Network which had a viewing audience of over 400,000 and counting.
It's been a long time since I've witnessed two young fighters go down to the wire toe-to-toe and blow-for-blow. Hats off to Marshall Kaufman of Kings Promotions and many thanks for everything he is doing to help in elevating the World Boxing Foundation to it's highest level.
