Singh outpoints Mudaliar to claim the vacant WBF Australasian Featherweight Title in FIJI

Saturday 31st August, the town of Sigatoka, FIJI was witness to a history making event proudly promoted by Blue Water Promotions. With the Main Event for the vacant WBF Australasian Featherweight title being the first WBF championship fight ever hosted at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The challengers, Junior Binnu Singh of FIJI and fellow countryman and former WBF title challenger Krishnil Mudaliar and with both boasting 10 wins a piece on their resumes, this fight promised to be a close one from the get go!

With traditional fire dancing officially escorting the WBF Championship belt to the ring for the much anticipated title fight, the capacity crowd in attendance certainly got their money’s worth, with fierce knock outs and close decisions scattered throughout the undercard to the controversial outcome of the semi-main event between former WBF Australasian Heavyweight Champ James Singh and Semi Dauloloma, where the bout was declared a ‘no contest’ after chaos erupted centre ring with both boxers cornermen entering the ring and exchanging punches of their own after Singh was reported to have hit his opponent when he was down on the canvas in the second round.

When the ring was finally cleared, the crowd was certainly on edge after witnessing the barrage that was the semi-main event and were now more than ready for the main event for the vacant WBF Australasian Featherweight Title fight.

10 wins each, anticipation aplenty, both fighters entered the ring and the hype leading up to the title fight was certainly on point. From the opening bell, both boxers displayed skill and poise as they each had success in all of the scheduled 8 rounds. By all accounts, a true masterclass of professional boxing by both challengers, but there could only be one crowned champion. After eight very closely contested rounds, we head to the Judge’s score cards.

77-75 (Singh) 75-77 (Mudaliar) 77-75 (Singh)

Junior Binnu Singh crowned the new WBF Australasian Featherweight Champion. Singh looks set to defend his crown in November in Fiji, and we would not at all be surprised if we see these two go at it again in what would be an epic rematch.
