Hafiz Montgomery from Toms River, New Jersey made the trip across state lines to North Carolina to face undefeated local Cruiserweight Austin Bryant at the Durham Armory venue for the vacant WBF Jr North American Cruiserweight Title.
Bryant with a huge home town crowd behind him was in for a tough day at the office. Montogomery dropped down from Heavyweight to Cruiserweight for the opportunity to fight for the vacant WBF Title on the Tony Meeks 'Top Katz Boxing' promotion.
In a very close and gruelling encounter, Montgomery fought a very smart and intelligent fight staying on his jab throughout the contest with his speed and angles proving to be the difference against the solid punching Bryant who in only his second outing in the paid ranks had defeated Zed Mitchell who was 8(8KO)-0.
In such an evenly matched Championship contest, we wonder if a rematch as the first defence of Montgomery's title might be on the cards.....
